The cost of any particular implementation depends on these variables:

Now we consolidate and virtualize, one server and replace desktop PCs with small footprint WinTerms:

• One server loaded with three virtual machines and software above @ $9500.00
• 35 WinTerms w/17" flat panel displays, TS license and application connectivity @ $900.00 per desktop
  Total network cost: $ 41,000.00 @ $1,171.00 per desktop

The eqation is not completely linear, however the more servers consolidated, the greater the savings. The more PCs re-deployed as PXE boot devices the greater the savings per desktop. Other factors that must be considered and greatly reduced are IT costs per desktop for management and maintenance as these costs are almost completely negated. The solution outlined above is based on a turnkey model. In a managed model the costs are based on server and application utilization, remote connectivity, and existing equipment.
